Escalation between Afghanistan and Pakistan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply concerned about the escalation of violence between Afghanistan and Pakistan. He calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and resolution of differences through diplomacy. Antonio Guterres calls on the parties to continue to work resolutely and in good faith to reach a lasting agreement. He also emphasizes that full and comprehensive verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be necessary for a successful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.

Banning the activities of humanitarian NGOs by Israel

According to media reports, the Supreme Court of Israel today temporarily blocked the implementation of a government decision that banned the activities of more than 35 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Palestinian territories. Answering questions from journalists, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric emphasized that the Organization needs to continue the work of partner international NGOs. This will allow the UN to fulfill its tasks of helping the population.
