Анналена Бербок запускает глобальную кампанию «Как женщина»

The President of the General Assembly is trying to change traditional narratives and recall the achievements of women in all spheres. Annalena Burbock launches global campaign “Like a Woman” Women

On International Women’s Day, March 8, the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Burbock, will present a new campaign #LikeAWoman – “Like a Woman”. Its goal is to highlight the achievements of women around the world and in all fields.

For centuries, the phrases “like a woman” and “like a girl” have been used as insults, implying weakness or certain social or familial functions. However, the facts show that women are strong, excel at leadership, reach incredible heights, and overcome many barriers that men do not face.

When women lead the peace process, agreements are more durable. When women shape the economy, profits go up. When women and girls have equal rights with men and boys, societies become more peaceful and prosperous.

The #LikeAWoman campaign seeks to change traditional narratives by showcasing the stories of heroines from different sectors and regions who bravely break barriers. From conflict zones to laboratories, sports arenas and outer space, women show what it means to live, create and succeed – all on their own terms.

In the days leading up to International Women’s Day, as well as during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which will be held in New York from March 9 to 19, the President of the General Assembly will publish photographs of successful women with quotes on her Instagram.

Here are examples of these quotes: “I was told that women had no place in the newsroom. That’s why I took the chair of editor-in-chief”; “They told me I couldn’t reach the stars. That’s why I flew into space.”

Annalena Burbock is the fifth woman in history to serve as President of the UN General Assembly. At the same time, she became the first woman from a group of Western European countries to hold this position. She previously served as Germany’s Foreign Minister.
