The situation around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant

The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in southern Ukraine today was left without connection to the line power transmission “Dneprovskaya” with a voltage of 750 kV. As a result, the facility is dependent on a single backup external power supply.

The station has been under the control of Russian forces since March 4, 2022 and has since been repeatedly damaged by shelling.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said that agency experts are monitoring the development of the situation and holding consultations with both sides on establishing a local ceasefire that would allow repairing the damaged power line.
